Wed 3 Apr - Chester, MD

Clear blue skies, cool, a top of 8 degrees Celsius is forecast (and according to Weather Watch "great potential for a rapid wildfire spread due to the gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fine fuels". But top forecast is 8 degrees Celsius!?

Hiking today. The "Cross Island Trail" follows road 50 from the Bay Bridge and east to Kent's Narrow, but we could catch it easily from Mary's place without having to drive. We decided to walk to Terrapin Beach Park next to the bridge.

The trail crosses Castle Marina Road and there is where we start walking the trail. First, some warnings...

It is cold and beautiful. A long stretch of the trail is absolutely straight and includes a wooden bridge over some ponds.
The path continues almost due west towards the Bay Bridge (you can see it here in the background). Spring is also finally arriving with jonquils and daffodils in various places along the trail. Lovely.
Sheltered by the trees, the "feel as" temperature wasn't too bad, but when we reached Chesapeake Bay, it was a very cold westerly wind that met us. The Bay Bridge is in the background. It is the longest continuous steel bridge in the world, crossing the Chesapeake Bay.
This is apparently "South Beach". We didn't see anybody brave enough to swim (funny that). The few walkers and joggers that we saw were all very rugged up.
Plenty of wetlands at Terrapin Beach Park, presumably with terrapins in them, but we didn't see any.
The "Cross Island Trail" is a shared path and bicycles and rollerbladers are allowed. However, you wonder about the bicycle commitment sometimes when you see this may stop signs. This is within a parking area for a sports field. We didn't even see a parked car there, never mind any moving car.
In the end, we just soldiered on and kept the lunches we carried for home. It was just too nippy to stop and sit for a longer period of time. We were back at Mary's place before noon. The Runkeeper stats from our stroll...

Soup to supplement the packed sandwich lunch soon warms us up.

A lazy afternoon before a curry dinner (home cooked by Di) with Burridge as our guest (a friend of Jim and Michel's). We've met her once and she is a whirlwind and fast paced talker, just like Di.

It turns out to be a very pleasant evening with good food and good wine and even a few laughs... Good night.
